The first of my Road Trip series, images of the cycling vacation we took in 2020. Was it the clear air during the pandemic? Was it just my happiness upon getting out and going somewhere after half a year trapped inside? I don't know, but I came home with so many amazing images and more inspiration for a painting series than I ever have.
It starts with homemade baltic birch panels that are textured with a combination of lead white and calcium carbonate, then a layer of a mix of yellow ochre deep and Indian yellow red, also with a little calcium carbonate. This creates a deep, vibrant orange that peeks through when I scrape back the painting as I go. It will also tie all the paintings together when the finished series is complete.
