Welcome and thank you for visiting!

Denise Ogier - Biography

Welcome! I am Denise Ogier, and I enjoy producing representational drawings and paintings.  I received a BS in Finance from Portland State University in 1997 and after choosing to consult part-time after my daughter was born, I started formally studying art in 2005.  I received a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Drawing and Painting from Laguna College of Art + Design in 2018 and plan to continue my art education indefinitely.

I believe beauty matters and it is everywhere if you’re open to seeing it. You don’t have to seek it out, just be open to it.  I am inspired to create art that captures a moment in time with a sense of immediacy and spontaneity.  I find inspiration in the places I go and the things I see, and I try to capture the beauty of simple, everyday things. As a literal thinker, I prefer representational art – I want to see a noun, a person, place, or thing, as opposed to an abstract concept. I would like the viewer to see and enjoy my art, but not be overly concerned with a deep meaning behind it.

I am open to the moment and do not let preconceived ideas get in my way.  All media are equally new and old to me, preventing biases about what I can and cannot do with my art.  I enjoy working in graphite, charcoal, pastel, ink and silverpoint in addition to painting in oil, acrylic and watercolor, from life, plein air and from photographic references.  I am not afraid to use digital tools to manipulate images to help me “see” what I want to produce.  I’ve appreciated every media I’ve been exposed to, so I will keep trying to find more.  A day when I learn something is a good day.  Art is a bottomless well of learning if you seek the right teachers and situations. It is an infinite climb, an infinite source of lessons.  Some people believe they’ve already learned everything they need to know and are convinced what is possible and what is not.  I don’t know. So I try, and I do, even if I’m not supposed to be able to.

Please follow me on Instagram to see what I'm currently working on and where I'm getting my inspiration.  That is often the best way to see my new work first! Even if the work you are interested in shows sold (with a little red dot in the corner) please still click the "more info..." link.  Most can be made into prints or printed on to other items or you can commission something original to match the style.

In addition to the existing work I have here, I am also available for commissions, both in person and from photographs.  Please contact me if you are interested.

Enjoy!

Denise
